My Mom was diagnosed as having Alzheimer's Disease just last year. She's seventy years old and some of us family members knew something was wrong years ago because of the way she repeated telling us stories, over and over. When I visited her in Ohio last year, I was convinced it was true because she could no longer cook for herself. Cooking is a sure sign because multitasking is required.

Not everyone in the family is in agreement with the diagnosis, and there is much confusion about the distribution of responsibilities. Right now, my sister Charlotte is the primary caregiver. She regularly sends me emails (called MiniBooks) describing her experiences taking care of Mom.

We need to find someone outside the family who understands the situation and can be accepted as an authority by everyone. Perhaps a social worker or case manager with experience coordinating and mediating for families of Alzheimer's victims. We still haven't found anyone who can do that for us!

Here are some links to Alzheimer's Disease Resources in Ohio.

Email your story to me. I'll post it here. It could match someone else's story. Mutually beneficial alliances can be formed.
