7/12/2003 - Riding home from Campbell last night was a peak experience. If both bike tires didn't lock up and the car speed up in front of and past me, then I would be dead or in the hospital right now. I did end up with myself and the sound of metal scraping on the pavement. The driver stopped a few lengths later and asked how I was, that she didn't see me. I yelled that I was ok and it wasn't her fault because I didn't have lights, and thanks for stopping. My feelings and thoughts in that split second when the oncoming vehicle made a left-hand turn in front of me were like those of a similar incident 36 years ago. "Oh no, this is it!" ran through my mind. That time I was on a motorcycle and we did make contact. I was in the hospital for two weeks and in a cast for nine months. My life has been inconvenienced ever since. Today, the day after my latest experience, I'm feeling fine. Yes, there were stupid mistakes made by all parties in both circumstances. No, it won't happen to me again. -gg |
