One of the world’s most celebrated natural wonders has officially joined the electric revolution, with visitors to the Giant’s Causeway now able to enjoy a more sustainable journey to the UNESCO World Heritage site – following the launch of four new electric vehicle (EV) chargers.

Installed through an ongoing partnership between the National Trust and RAW Charging, the facility ensures that Northern Ireland’s premier landmark is fully equipped for the future of eco-friendly tourism.

By introducing four Type 2, 22kW AC chargers at the Causeway, the Trust is making it easier than ever for visitors to explore the legendary 40,000 basalt columns with the assurance that their vehicle is recharging at one of the most iconic EV charging locations in the UK and Ireland.

The new charging bays are specifically engineered to meet the National Trust’s “Everyone Welcome” standards.

This project is a vital component of the National Trust’s wider commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of visitor travel. By providing reliable, high-specification infrastructure at its most famous sites, the Trust is making sustainable travel a practical and convenient choice for the millions of global tourists and local explorers who visit the Causeway annually.

With these new charging bays, visitors are able to enjoy their time on the clifftop trails while contributing to a greener future, ensuring that the journey to the Causeway is as sustainable as the site itself.

Following the successful rollout at other heritage locations, this installation is part of a broader programme that will see over 300 additional bays energised in the coming months. Future sites including Lacock Abbey, Felbrigg Hall and Hidcote are set to receive similar bespoke installations, each tailored to protect the character of the historic environment while providing modern convenience.

The bays, installed and operated by RAW Charging, feature a user-first design with protection bollards spaced wider to ensure interfaces are easy to reach for all visitors. Drivers can find and pay for charging via the Zapmap app, or pay using contactless payment with the Zapmap charging card.

Jason Simpson, CEO of RAW Charging, said:

“The Giant’s Causeway is yet another popular destination where we’re proud to introduce best-in-class EV infrastructure. This investment goes beyond infrastructure; it is about connecting amazing places and supporting the UK’s transition to cleaner, greener transport. Expanding charging across more locations is an important step in making sustainable travel easier and more accessible for EV motorists.”

“It is equally important that this essential infrastructure is delivered in a way that is sensitive to the unique character of each site. That way, EV owners can enjoy the convenience of modern charging facilities without compromising the scenic environment they have purposely come to experience.”

This latest installation follows a period of major success for RAW Charging, including being named Zapmap Best Destination Network for 2026 and receiving ICC Gold accreditation in late 2025.
