ubitricity, the UK’s largest public EV charging network, and a full subsidiary of Shell, today announced a new deal to supply the charging network with over 16 GWh of renewable solar energy annually.
This Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is expected to help ubitricity to continue to provide stable energy costs across their network of over 14,600 public charge points in the UK and directly supporting UK solar energy assets.
Under the agreement, Shell Energy Europe will supply ubitricity with renewable energy from Iddenshall Solar Farm, a new solar plant in Cheshire. The solar plant is expected to become operational in Summer 2026. Through the PPA, ubitricity has been receiving energy from solar assets in the UK via Shell Energy Europe since October 2025 and will continue to do so until the Iddenshall project becomes operational.
Alexander Reinhardt, ubitricity’s Chief Executive Officer, said:
“I am pleased we have signed our first power purchase agreement for ~16 gigawatt hours per year. Whilst the ubitricity network has historically been powered by 100% REGOS certified renewable energy, we are proud to have an even closer connection to our energy source and supply the UK ubitricity network with renewable energy from a UK-based solar farm.”
The Cheshire based solar plant will power a significant portion of ubitricity’s total electricity demand in the UK. ubitricity supplies its charging network using Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs), ensuring that all electricity purchased for its charge points is matched with an equivalent volume of power generated from fully renewable sources in the UK.
ubitricity has supported local authorities across the UK through installing over 14,600 public electric vehicle charge points and this agreement will further ubitricity’s ambitions to help provide greener transport for cities over the next decade.
Its on-street charging network can be accessed directly in the Zapmap app, where payments can be easily made with the press of a button, and the live status and availability of all of ubitricity's chargers can be viewed 24 hours a day.
