Between the 27th and 29th of May, retired Squadron Leader, Tony Jackson will attempt a journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats on an electric motorcycle, using the UK’s public charging network to power the mission.

The 2026 Charity EV Challenge is a 900-mile endurance test featuring a Maeving RM1S electric motorcycle. To keep the bike on the road for the daily 150-mile legs, Tony will be supported by his brother, retired Flight Lieutenant Trevor Jackson, in a Farizon SV electric van. This "hub and spoke" strategy relies on the van’s mobile charging capabilities to swap and charge the bike’s batteries throughout the day.

To support them in their challenge, Zapmap has provided a Zapmap charging card with charging credit made available to use across over 50 public charging networks. Working seamlessly with the Zapmap app, the card allows drivers to start a charge with a quick tap at compatible charge points. By using the charging card, the team can ensure the van remains powered up to act as a mobile hub for the motorcycle.

The drive behind the journey is to raise funds for the RAF Benevolent Fund. Having served 36 years in the Royal Air Force, Tony Jackson is undertaking this physical and technical challenge to support the charity’s work in providing financial, emotional, and practical aid to current and former RAF personnel.

Donations can be made through the challenge’s JustGiving page.
