We spoke to Stella Nguyen, Marketing Executive at TotalEnergies, about what the network has to offer, what TotalEnergies has accomplished over the course of 2025, and its plans for the future.

Stella Nguyen – Marketing Executive, Total Energies

There are dozens of CPOs across the country, why should drivers filter for Total Energies when they open Zapmap?

Drivers open Zapmap when they need networks they can trust – that’s what TotalEnergies offers. With over 3,000 charge points across 24 London boroughs, and more on the way, we provide convenient access to 7kW, 22kW, and up to 150kW charging, available 24/7 and powered by 100% renewable energy. Drivers benefit from clear pricing and real-time status updates, ensuring a transparent experience with no surprises.

What's been the biggest surprise for Total Energies so far this year, and how have you responded to that?

One of the biggest surprises this year has been the pace at which network performance expectations have risen. Drivers, local authorities and partners now look for near-perfect uptime as a standard requirement. Rather than viewing this as a challenge, we saw it as an opportunity to accelerate our operational excellence programme.

In 2025, we strengthened our maintenance model, completing over 11,000 corrective and preventive visits. We also expanded our units across networks, deploying more than 200 new units with minimal disruption. As a result, our DC network now consistently operates at 98-99% availability, with 99% recorded in December 2025 — giving drivers confidence that chargers will be ready when they need them.

By responding to these rising expectations, we have been able to turn the challenge into momentum—driving stronger solutions, reinforcing network reliability, and positioning ourselves to better meet the level of service customers increasingly expect.

What is your most unique location in your network and why?

One of our most distinctive locations is a DC rapid charging site (up to 50 kW) situated directly opposite Prince Philip House in Westminster. This central London location is not only iconic, but also exceptionally practical for EV drivers navigating the capital.

The site offers rapid, reliable charging in one of London’s most historic districts, where fast charging has traditionally been difficult to access. Its proximity allows EV users to top up quickly while staying close to key workplaces, cultural landmarks and major visitor areas, bringing high-power, 24/7 charging directly into the city’s core and helping remove the worry of charging when travelling through central London.

It reflects our commitment to placing infrastructure exactly where it’s needed—making EV driving in London easier, convenient and reliable.

What is the biggest barrier to EV uptake in the UK and how can this be addressed?

One of the biggest barriers to EV adoption is the higher, more variable cost of public charging, especially for those without home charging, combining with uncertainty about charger availability. That can make EV ownership feel less predictable and less affordable

At TotalEnergies, we are addressing this challenge head on by expanding access, improving reliability, and offering transparent, fairly priced charging across London. Our tailored offers give members cost‑efficient solutions, helping them to better manage their charging expenses through stable and lower tariffs.

Using our Resident Membership as an example: when customers join, they benefit from the lowest pricing across chargers in their borough of residence, along with cheaper tariffs across our wider network. This not only improves everyday convenience but also gives drivers greater confidence as they transition to electric mobility.

We also recognise that trust in availability is critical to wider EV adoption. That is why we have invested heavily in operational excellence—driving high network reliability and directly responding to concerns raised by drivers. By strengthening network performance and creating a charging experience customers can depend on, we are contributing to the UK's transition to cleaner transport.

How are you making the charging experience simple for drivers across the UK?

Simplicity is one of our core values, and we design every part of the charging experience with ease and clarity in mind. Each TotalEnergies charge point provides clear, three‑step instructions to help drivers start charging confidently and without hesitation.

This straightforward process is supported by multiple payment options, giving drivers the flexibility to charge with or without an account through simple Pay As You Go (PAYG) access.

To further support peace of mind, our 24/7 helpdesk and local expert teams are always available should drivers need assistance at any stage.

Focusing on clarity, flexibility, and reliable support, we’re creating a seamless and stress-free charging experience that works for drivers.

What measures are you working on to ensure your network hits the target of 99% uptime, as the government has mandated?

On our DC network, we are already ahead of this trajectory — achieving 99.3% availability last year, supported by the rollout of 28 new DC sockets across London. To maintain and build on this performance, our teams provide continuous, proactive maintenance to prevent issues before they affect drivers.

Alongside this, we’ve strengthened our operational model with a high-level service package agreed with our manufacturers, in-house maintenance experts and subcontractors to ensure on-time solutions to customer.

By focusing on preventative maintenance and collaboratively reacting to the issues with our suppliers, we ensure our network remains ready to meet the customers’ 99% uptime expectation
