RAW Charging, the leading electric vehicle (EV) chargepoint operator for the leisure sector, has announced the activation of a new EV charging hub at Wingham Wildlife Park in Kent.
As a Corporate Associate member of BIAZA (British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums), award-winning RAW Charging has partnered with Wingham Wildlife Park to implement a solution that directly addresses the rising demand for destination charging within the conservation community.
The installation follows the findings of a RAW Charging industry report last year, ‘Charging Up Conservation: How Zoos & Aquariums can lead the charge with EV Infrastructure’, which highlights that nearly 25% of all family vehicles sold in 2024 were electric or hybrid, creating a critical need for zoos and aquariums to serve an increasingly eco-conscious demographic.
The new hub has 12 EV chargers and was delivered through RAW’s fully funded model, which allowed Wingham Wildlife Park to implement the project at no capital cost while RAW manages the ongoing maintenance and support. The site utilises 22kW Standard Plus (destination) chargers which are ideal for the long dwell times typical of wildlife park visitors, ensuring vehicles are replenished without requiring guests to move their cars during their visit.
This project forms part of RAW’s ‘Connecting Amazing Places’ campaign and follows the business’s recent recognition as the recipient of the Zapmap Best Destination Network Award for 2026 and ICC Gold accreditation.
It follows an expansion of EV infrastructure at Chessington World of Adventures, which is just the latest example of similar hubs already established at other major UK attractions, including Thorpe Park and LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort, as RAW works closely with Merlin Entertainment Group to support sustainable travel across its portfolio.
Wingham Wildlife Park’s Owner, Tony Binskin, said:
“We’re delighted to be working with RAW Charging to introduce new electric vehicle charging bays at Wingham Wildlife Park. This investment is all about enhancing our visitors’ experience, making it easier and more convenient for guests to travel sustainably, while helping us become greener than ever.”
Jason Simpson, CEO of RAW Charging said:
“Our partnership with Wingham Wildlife Park demonstrates how wildlife attractions can seamlessly integrate EV infrastructure into their sustainability strategies. By providing a fully funded solution, we enable BIAZA members to enhance the visitor experience and reduce visitor-related emissions while focusing their own resources on vital conservation work.”
