InstaVolt has agreed a national framework with Whitbread, owner of Premier Inn, to bring Ultra-rapid charging to Premier Inn locations across the UK.

Premier Inn is the UK’s largest hotel brand, with more than 845 hotels across the UK and Ireland. Many sit on key road networks and in towns and cities nationwide, making them natural places for drivers to take a break and carry on with their journey fully charged.

InstaVolt and Whitbread will work together to identify and deliver new Ultra-rapid charging at well-located Premier Inn sites, creating a pipeline of new locations. The first upgrades are already under way, with further new sites progressing through design, planning and construction.

The agreement builds on InstaVolt’s acquisition earlier this year of 228 GeniePoint charging locations from Equans, which included more than 100 locations associated with the Whitbread estate.

The agreement is not only about adding new chargers. Over the coming months, InstaVolt will upgrade existing charging facilities at Premier Inn locations with the latest Ultra-rapid technology, enhanced grid connections where required and improved signage.

Drivers do not need to be staying at Premier Inn to use the chargers, so they can plug in and make use of the hotel’s hospitality facilities while their vehicle charges.

All InstaVolt chargers can be found in the Zapmap app, where live status and availability information is shared 24 hours a day. Charging sessions can also be started and paid for directly in the app, and InstaVolt chargers are compatible with the Zapmap charging card, an RFID card that lets you pay with just a tap.
