InstaVolt, the UK's largest Ultra Rapid charging network, has confirmed that CHAdeMO charging will remain a permanent feature across its network, with at least one of the connectors included at every one of its 900 existing sites and 300 new sites currently in development.
The commitment comes during Used EV Week, as buyers weigh up older electric vehicles including early Nissan Leaf models that rely on CHAdeMO for rapid charging. While vehicle manufacturers have moved to CCS for new models, InstaVolt says thousands of drivers still depend on CHAdeMO every day for commuting, business travel and longer journeys. In Q2 2026, according to SMMT data, a record 110,761 used battery electric cars were sold, representing a 67.0% increase since Q2 2025.

"Every InstaVolt site, existing and new, has CHAdeMO alongside CCS. That’s not a legacy afterthought; it’s a deliberate choice to back the used EV market. A car doesn’t stop being viable the day the manufacturer moves on to a new connector.”
